When Gol-Thir became, once trusted bodygyard of Hor-Neb, grew to large to manage, he was places in the pit to help guard the eggs and rock. But now, his condition is becoming so bad he can hardly stand. Conan climbs out an exit in the pit and finds himself in another trap...he is in an arena surrounded by the citizens of Harakht and facing two doors, one of which contains Belit and the other a fierce and hungry giant leopard. Mer-Ath confides in Neftha which door contains Belit, having learned the information from his brother. Neftha signals to Conan and he opens that door, but the leopard jumps out - Hor-Neb, suspecting Neftha's motives gave his brother falce information. Conan hurriedly opens the other door so he and Belit can face the leopard together, but she is drugged. Another complication is added when Gol-Thir is brought into the arena to help kill Conan, but instead, before he collapses entirely, the giant grabs and tosses Conan into the Hor-Neb's seats. Conan stabs and throws the king to the leopard, and Mer-Ath declares himself king.
